Chelsea and Fulham MP has criticised the introduction of the Adidas City Run, a new 'mass participation running event', which is set to close roads across Fulham for most of Sunday 18 March.

The MP says in his latest e-bulletin that he was 'surprised' to hear of this event, saying he had not been consulted on it.

He says: "Even though the organisers claim that the route and road closure timings were carefully considered - including by the Labour H&F Council and Transport for London - and it is being organised for a good cause, these road closures will cause immense frustration and inconvenience for local residents."

He adds: "It is incredibly worrying that the organisers are implying that this might become an annual event, and you can bet that local residents won't forget this total lack of consultation."

The City Run's 10 km route will begin and end at Eel Brook Common, which will house an Event Village and as the map above shows, will take in New Kings, Munster, Dawes, Harwood and Fulham Roads as well as Parsons Green Lane and a loop around Chelsea Football Club's Stamford Bridge.

The run is scheduled to begin at 9.30am and end at 1pm, with the Event Village open from 7.45am.

According to the event's website this means New Kings Road will be closed from 6am, while others will be closed from 7am until 2pm on Sunday 18 March. Some parking suspensions will also be enforced and the organisers say advanced warning of these will be erected two weeks ahead of the event.

The organisers say: "The route and road closure timings overleaf have been carefully considered and selected through a partnership of all local authorities, emergency services and Transport for London to minimise the inconveniences of the necessary road closures.

"Emergency services will be operating as usual so please follow normal procedures in the case  of an emergency.

"Pedestrian access will be unaffected across the event route, but there will be no vehicle or bicycle access on these roads during the road closure period. Bus diversions will also be in place for the event so please do visit Transport for London to see if your public transport journey by bus is affected.

"If you have plans that you think may be impacted by the planned road closures on 18
March 2018 such as formal events or carer responsibilities, please visit our website for more information or get in touch directly by email or phone. We will do all we can to provide you with more information on how you can best navigate your way around the road closures."

This inaurgural event, which is open to all members of the public, is supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital. Organisers are hoping it will become one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the running calendar.
