Christmas Jazz at London Oratory School

Addison Singers  relive the Birth of the Blues

The West London based Addison Singers bring an evening of jazz to London Oratory School's John McIntosh Arts Theatre on December 12.

This autumn concert is themed around the origins of jazz brought to North and South America with the music of the people of Africa. The concert will revisit their music within a modern context of freedom, particularly from South Africa.

The concert, under the leadership of musical director David Wordsworth, will feature the Addison Jazz Choir plus soloists, and the Jazz Ensemble.

Jill Jarman will conduct the choir, who will perform favourites including Irving Berlin's Alexander's Ragtime Band, the classic soul hit Son of a Preacher Man, You Raise Me Up and Balm in Gilead.

Matthew Hough will conduct the ensemble, whose songs will include Otis Redding's Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay, Gershwin's I Got Rhythm, N'Kosi Sikilel I Africa (Prayer to Africa) and Steal Away.

The ensemble and choir will also get together to perform Chocholoza (African welcoming song).

Tickets for the Jazz Concert cost £9 in advance, with £7 concessions or £2 to under 16s whose tickets are booked alongside adults. These can be bought online from We Got Tickets.

Tickets can also be bought on the door for £10, £8 for concessions or £2 for under 16s.
