London Birthday Ideas

From food to culture, the Capital has it all

If you live close to London and your birthday is coming up, the urge to go and spend your birthday in the city isn't unjustified. London is an incredible place with unbelievable variety crammed into it. There's just so much to do, for just about anybody.

It's definitely worth taking the time out to visit the city. Whatever your interests are, you're guaranteed to find something that will tickle your fancy. Whether you want to spend the day playing Mecca Bingo or browsing through one of the many museums, London has everything for you.

Arts and culture

London is one of the biggest centres in Europe for the arts. It boasts a staggering 240 different museums of all shapes and sizes, scattered across the city. You can find yourself admiring the giant bones of a Diplodocus at the Natural History Museum, or studying the history of the British home at the Geffrye Museum in Hoxton, East London.

Alternatively, if museums are a little too quiet for you, why not hit the West End? There are around 40 different theatres there and you're guaranteed to see something memorable any day of the week. If theatre's not really your thing, go online and check out listings on sites like Resident Advisor for fun club nights out.

Culinary delights

If you're a foodie, you're in luck, as London hosts some of the world's best food, catering to all appetites and diets. You could nip down to Chinatown to indulge in some of the best Chinese food in the UK.

It's easy to be confused by the wide array of restaurants, but a little research before you head out would certainly help. Café de Hong Kong is a good bet, as is New Fook Lam Moon.

You could also head down to Dalston for some Turkish cuisine. Stoke Newington Road is scattered with loads of Turkish grill restaurants. The queues don't lie and the food is definitely worth waiting for.

Other entertainment

London isn't just host to museums and restaurants. If you're seeking to push different buttons, there is plenty of alternative entertainment available. You can always have a taste of Vegas in London, for instance, by going to some of the big casinos like the Empire and the Colony Club.

Musical Bingo is also a fun thing you can take part in – it's more about the musical madness than it is about winning. Other than gambling, there is also plenty of scope for other niche events, like Hip Hop karaoke or the Secret Cinema screenings.
