Courting Season

How to take up tennis in SW6

June is of course tennis month in London, and if events at Queens Club and Wimbledon inspire you to pick up a

racquet, Fulham offers plenty of opportunities to play.

There are public courts at four local parks:

Bishops Park - 15 courts

Eel Brook Common - 2 courts
Hurlingham Park - 3 courts
South Park - 6 courts

These courts are available 7 days a week, from 9am till dusk. To book in advance players, need to call sports bookings on 020 7736 1735 any day of the week between 10am and noon.

Players must initially book five games in advance, at £7 each, or a total cost of £35, and when they have used those up they can top up their games by phone. Advance bookings can be made 24 hours to 14 days in advance.

They can also play without pre-booking by simply arriving and claiming an un-booked court, and paying £9 to a mobile attendant. However, during the busy summer months the council says it is advisable to pre-book through its system.

There are also 3 courts at Normand Park, which can be booked through Fulham Pools. Call 0870 8707018 for more details.

For those who want to improve their service, Hammersmith and Fulham Education Department's Community Learning & Leisure Service runs a programme of tennis coaching for all levels of player from beginners to advanced. Contact the Fitness & Health Team Leader on 020 7385 6166 for further details.

If you are committed to the courts and would like to join a local club, the friendly Parsons Green Club, which has 5 courts including 2 which are floodlit, is welcoming new members.  You can visit the club in Broomhouse Lane any day of the week between 12pm and 2pm or after 6.30pm when staff are on duty to buzz you in - no appointment is necessary.

Alternatively, call the club on 020 7736 3698 or email parsonsgreenclub@gmail.com.
