Borough in Bloom Competition Now Open for Entries


Your chance to show off your pride and joy

Is your garden blossoming? Hammersmith and Fulham Council is inviting the green fingers folk in the community to show off their pride and joy by entering this year's Borough in Bloom competition.

The competition is completely free to enter and there are ten categories, as follows:

Front garden
Front gardens no larger than 15 metres in any one direction. Side gardens can be included as long as there is an open aspect to the front as well as to the side of the property

and are not longer than 15 metres


Back garden
A back garden is totally at the rear of the property

Roof terrace or balcony
A roof terrace or balcony can contain any items and is on a building above ground level

Window box
A window box can contain plants, flowers and/or ornamental items

Container garden
A container garden has to contain 2 or more displays of hanging baskets, boxes or tubs

Vegetable garden
A Front or Back garden with a Vegetable area

Business premises
The business premises category can include any business premise within the Borough including pubs, cafes or surgeries

Community garden
Any garden, which is for community use, i.e. flats and apartment complexes, nursing homes, sheltered housing complexes or any school garden or nature area maintained mainly by the children of the school

Senior Citizen
For Senior Citizens only and can apply to any other category i.e. front, rear, large, small, baskets, tubs, specialist, council etc. Entry to this category is in addition to any other category entered

If there is any doubt as to the suitability of category entry, the decision will remain solely with the judges and is final and binding.

Judging will take place in July and the winners will be presented with prizes of gardening voucher and certificates at a ceremony in the Autumn.

Judges will be looking for effective use of plants, colour, layout, good cultivation and maintenance. Special consideration will be given to gardens which include environmental benefits, such as water recycling or gardens that attract wildlife.

The winners of some categories may also get the chance to represent Hammersmith & Fulham in the capital-wide London in Bloom contest.
