Council Issues £1.7million in Yellow Box Junction Fines


Greenford junction resulted in £200,000 in charges last year

Ealing Council have issued over £1.7million in charges to motorists for stopping in yellow box junctions in the last three years.

One yellow box junction alone, on the intersection of Greenford Road and Otter Road, led to over £200,000 in charges being issued in the last financial year.

The amount of charges have steadily risen year on year, with motorists caught stopped in a yellow box junction facing a full charge of £130, which is reduced to £65 if payment is made within two weeks.

Penalty charges – once issued – have proved difficult to challenge too.

From April last year to March this year, 865 people appealed, but only 45 got off (that’s just over five per cent).

2016-17: 7,390 Penalty Charge Notices Issues equating to £480,350 in charges being issued.

2017-18: 9,288 Penalty Charge Notices Issues equating to £603,720 in charges being issued.

2018-19: 9,761 Penalty Charge Notices Issues equating to £634,465 in charges being issued
