Police are investigating an assault on a member of staff at the Greenford Re-use and Recycling Centre this Monday (1 June).

Four people allegedly set upon the employee when they were refused admission to the tip after 4pm the official closing time of the facility. The council had been advising people not to arrive after 3.30pm.

There have been queues of up to three hours at council tips including Greenford since they were reopened on 18 May. The local police team in Greenford Broadway advised people to avoid the area as queues have been stretching back to Ruislip Road East.

Councillor Mik Sabiers, cabinet member for environment and highways said, “While I recognise that there may be long queues to access the borough’s waste centres, there is no excuse for physical or verbal assault of staff doing their best to ensure social distance is observed.

“We are working with the police to identify the assailants and the car they used, and encourage anyone who witnessed the incident to provide details to the police. We take any assault on members of our staff very seriously and will prosecute.

“I would like to pass on my best wishes for a quick recovery to individual member of staff assaulted and those that witnessed the assault. And to thank them for all the work they are doing under these difficult circumstances.”

If you witnessed the incident please call the police on 101 and quote CAD 4776.
