Mia found in a box among headstones on one of the hottest days in July
The RSPCA'S investigating after a puppy was found dumped in a box in Hanwell on one of the hottest days of July, inspectors say she's lucky to be alive.
Mia, an eight-week-old crossbreed, was found by a member of the public who was walking through Hanwell Cemetery on Monday (23 July).
She was was handed into a local veterinary clinic who called in the RSPCA.
RSPCA Inspector Mike Beaman said,“This little pup was found with a blue blanket inside a white cardboard box marked ‘Fragile’. She’d apparently being left in a cemetery.
“A short note was left with her explaining that she was eight-weeks-old, a crossbreed, and hadn’t had any vaccinations.
“She was found at around lunchtime by a member of the public. Goodness knows how long she’d been in that box in the cemetery but, in this heat, it’s incredible that she was okay.”
She’s now being cared for by staff at RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital and Inspector Beaman is keen to find out if anyone knows where she might have come from or if anyone saw anything suspicious in the area at the time.
“It’s completely irresponsible to abandon a pup of this age in this way, particularly during this heatwave which is so dangerous for animals,” Inspector Beaman added.
“Anyone who can assist in our enquiries should call our appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
Last year, the RSPCA received more than 10,000 calls about abandoned animals between June and August - 50% more than the colder months.
