Cyclist Hit By Lorry on Uxbridge Road Dies in Hospital


Tributes paid to former Police Officer following the collision in West Ealing

A woman cyclist who died in hospital after being hit by a lorry on the Uxbridge Road has been named as former police officer Claudia Manera.

The 51-year-old, originally from Turin, Italy, was a lecturer and fitness instructor and volunteered as a special constable before joining as a full-time officer in Ealing.

Tributes have been paid to the fitness enthusiast, Ealing Commander, Chief Superintendent Paul Martin said: '' PC Manera was an exemplary officer who will be missed by all.'' Claudia's father Ugro, who travelled to London to be at her bedside spoke of her ' enthusiasm and passion.'

The incident occurred shortly before 1.30pm (12 October) near the junction with Northfield Avenue. Emergency services were on the scene quickly.

Ms Manera suffered serious injuries to her lower limbs and was taken to an East London hospital by air ambulance but despite the efforts of surgeons she died on Thursday night at 11.45pm.

Detective Sergeant Cheryl Frost of the Met's SCIU said: "This incident took place in a busy area at a heavy footfall time of day. I am confident that a number of people must have seen what happened. I urge anyone who has information to contact police without delay."

The lorry involved stopped at the scene and the driver of the vehicle is assisting police with police enquiries.

The police asked anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information to call the Alperton Traffic Garage witness line on 0208 991 9555 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Her death is the eighth known cyclist fatality on London’s roads this year.

Protesters plan a demonstration on Saturday 28th October calling on the council to make the road safer.
