Jack Collins reviews a new Chiswick all-rounder
Walking into Zenny’s, the interior’s cosy and comforting, with a bright, refreshing colour scheme and a pleasantly simple layout. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel relaxed, that you could quite happily while away the hours with a friend over coffee or lunch or dinner. Luckily for Chiswick residents, you can do all three, one after the other, if you so wished. And you probably will.
I went on a Thursday afternoon with my friend Emmett, to see what this new cuisine had to offer. We were warmly welcomed and told we could sit anywhere that we pleased. After ordering drinks, we moved on to the choice of starters. There was a variety of options, but I decided on the Onion Rings with an Aioli sauce, whilst Emmett opted for the Nachos, topped with Salsa, Melted Cheese and Jalapenos. Whilst the Onion Rings were good, crunchy on the outside and with a fantastically fresh dip, Emmett’s Nachos took the plaudits.
Whilst some of you will remark that these are very standard dishes, this is where Zenny’s excels, doing simple, honest food from a variety of cuisines, and doing it exceptionally well. The Nachos were crisp, hot, with a generous selection of toppings and Jalapenos which were hot without burning your mouth off. As connoisseurs of Nachos, (we’ve had them from Edinburgh to London, and everywhere in between) we both agreed that these were up there with the best.
After we had finished up, our main courses arrived. I chose the half rack of ribs, and Emmett went for the Half Chicken, with Barbeque sauce, although you could also opt for Piri-Piri if that took your fancy. Both were served with a fresh Salad and fluffy, fat chips. Again, they were both remarkably good, although I think the ribs were better, meat that fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. This was the one place we disagreed in our entire meal, with Emmett insisting his chicken was tastier! Both plates were soon cleared and my only regret was not ordering the full rack, although, already bulging, my stomach might have disagreed.
We were both too full for dessert, although we were sad to pass up on the chance to taste the produce of the in-store ice-cream parlour.
Zenny’s offers somewhere refreshing on the Chiswick restaurant scene, offering dishes from a variety of cuisines, at affordable prices, in a comforting and easy-going environment. No matter if you’re going in for lunch, dinner, a coffee, an ice-cream or a cocktail (at the wonderful bar), you’re guaranteed a warm welcome and service with a smile.
They do a take-away and delivery service as well, but with an environment like this, the only reason you should need it is if the restaurant’s too full!
