New place to eat offers treasures of a different kind
There is certainly no shortage of good restaurants and cafes in Chiswick but the new High Road Auctions Cafe has treasure of a different kind to offer.
The Cafe is situated in the midst of a huge array of beautiful vintage and antique pieces, all waiting to be auctioned. After ordering your food, you could wander around, marvelling at the objects on show with a glass of wine in hand (at least that is what I did).
When it came to the food, there was a similar delectable selection. My companion and I both opted for focaccia sandwiches which are available with a variety of fillings that would suit pretty much everyone’s tastes. Our focaccia came with a side salad which was fresh and crisp, not limp and lifeless as so many are nowadays.
It was a perfect lunchtime meal, not too rich or heavy, but perfectly tasty and filling. If focaccia is not your thing, then there is a wide range of alternative sandwiches, bagels and salads. Most of the Café’s lunchtime meals are priced around £4.65 mark which, considering the quality of the food, is great value for money.
I allowed my sweet-tooth to get the better of me when I was faced with the treasure trove of pastries, cakes and other treats and finished off my meal with a Caramel slice.
High Road Auctions Cafe also has a good breakfast menu and given its relaxed atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Chiswick; it would make a great place to use the free WiFi connection to catch up on some work.
On auction nights the atmosphere changes from laid back to a lively buzz of excitement with the action from the auction streamed live on a big screen in the Café. With a small glass of wine costing just £2.50, you could enjoy a tipple or two in the restaurant and still have sufficient change to nip into the auction room to make a bid should anything take your fancy. I would recommend arriving before 6 to grab one of the best tables in front of the screen.
So, if you are looking for somewhere new and interesting to unwind and spend those long summer days, then the High Road Auctions Café is a real gem.
