Outsider Tart told it needs to make improvements by hygiene inspectors
A local American-style bake shop and cafe has been told it needs to make some improvements following a recent inspection. The food hygiene and safety at Outsider Tart was rated as 'good' by the inspectors but other areas needed improvement. The owner has said that the area requiring work relates to layout and structure in the cafe.
Outsider Tart was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 2 (Improvement Necessary) by London Borough of Hounslow. The inspectiors rated the cafe poor on 'structural compliance' and said they had 'some' confidence in management.
Food Hygiene Ratings range from 0-5 with Zero for Urgent Improvement and 5 meaning Very Good. The quirky cafe which specialises in American traybakes, cakes and savoury dishes, opened eleven years ago, and in 2014 it featured in ITV's 'Britain's Best Bakery' programme on the South East.
Co-owner David Lesniak commented, "We're obviously disappointed in this rating. However, we'd like to reassure customers the rating is in relation to our layout and structure - not our handling of food. The full report explains this and we're working closely with our Environmental Health Officer to ensure we can complete some appropriate works to improve the rating.
"As an independent business we are now faced with the challenge of finding funds for building works, on top of additional pressures such as the significant increase in local business rates. We love being part of the Chiswick High Road - we think we bring something unique and special and believe the success of the area depends on a mix of businesses - both chains and independents."
