Enforcement notice looks likely for structure on Bedford Corner
Ealing Council have begun the process of formal enforcement action against the 'gazebo' outside Melody Cafe on Bedford Corner.
Local Councillors and the Bedford Park Society have been informed about the move which came after the owner failed to submit a planning application by the deadline set by the Council planning department.
After a site visit on 21 July, a request was made by the Council's Building Control department to remove the structure by 19 August. A planning officer visited the site on that date to verify that it remained in place. Following the visit the owner advised the planning department that a planning application would be submitted by 23 August. As no application had been received by 25 August the decision was made to proceed with enforcement.
The recently opened Melody Cafe is a cafe/restaurant on South Parade on the premises formerly occupied by Darcau. It is owned by Mohammad Zarzour, a Chiswick resident, who is also the part owner of a restaurant in Mayfair. The cafe offers a range of dishes from breakfasts, to sandwiches and salads as well as hot food throughout the day and into the evening.
The sudden appearance of the structure on Bedford Corner on South Parade has caused consternation among some nearby businesses and residents who say they were not informed it was to be built.
The conservatory-style wooden structure with a glass roof, which has been erected outside the main entrance, has drawn mixed local reaction, with some saying they believe it is out of character in a conservation area, while others say it is a welcome addition to an area that needs to be revitalised.
We asked Mr Zarzour for a comment but have yet to receive a response.
