Foxlow Opens Its New Chiswick Restaurant

New chain with emphasis on steaks, cocktails and brunch, has taken over Sam's Brasserie site

Following its 'soft opening', Foxlow restaurant officially opens today (October 22) in the former Sam's Brasserie and Bar premises in Barley Mow Passage.

The Chiswick restaurant is the third in the London stable of owners Will Beckett and Huw Gott, who also own the Hawksmoor chain.

It has recently been refurbished using reclaimed and vintage materials and will offer charcoal-grilled steaks sourced from The Ginger Pig butchery, as well as seafood, smoked meats and salads.

Weekend lunch and brunches are also on offer as well as Sunday lunch, and a full wine and cocktail range is available. The bar will also serve the full restaurant menu. Foxlow Chiswick has 116 covers and 34 in the bar and they say the average spend is £80 for two people including drinks.

The first Foxlow restaurant opened in Clerkenwell and the restaurateurs recently opened a second branch in Stoke Newington. Its sister restaurant Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant chain that first opened in Spitalfields and now has six branches in London and one in Manchester.

In an interview with Chiswickw4.com recently, co-owner Will Beckett talked about the move to Chiswick, which arose out of a conversation last year with Sam Harrison, who told him he was looking for a change, after ten years in W4.

"Foxlows are the restaurants we always wanted to open.  When we first opened Hawksmoor Spitalfields in 2006 it was a great independent neighbourhood restaurant that punched way above its weight because of the quality of food and drink. Eventually Hawksmoor set off on a different path, becoming big (and hopefully very good!) destination restaurants.

"Obviously because people associate Hawksmoor with meat there’s always the question, ‘is Foxlow a steakhouse?’.  Well, it certainly has steak – we buy meat, as we always have, from Tim Wilson from the Ginger Pig, predominantly Longhorn cattle from his amazing herd in North Yorkshire.

"However, even Hawksmoor is more varied than ‘just steak’ – we often give equal weighting to seafood and have worked for years with Mitch Tonks, who we think is the best seafood chef in the country, and the dishes we serve are not just ‘steakhouse classics’.

"At the moment we’ve got dishes inspired by trips to the States, the Middle East and Catalunya amongst others; we always thought of the menu predominantly as the kind of food that people love, done as well as it can be, and the kind of thing you can go back to again and again without getting bored. "

The restaurant offers fish and vegetarian options including home-cured salmon (as a starter) hake with romesco sauce and ricotta dumplings with girolles and butternut squash. However, the menu is primarily meat-based including aged sirloin, rump and rib eye, chateaubriand, and larger cuts for sharing. Other popular dishes are beef short rib, burgers and Foxlow Fried Chicken.

Every Tuesday you can bring your own wine with free corkage at lunch and dinner.

Foxlow say the pre-opening bookings have been busy and there is considerable interest from Chiswick residents. There is limited available tonight (Oct 22nd).

The restaurant is open seven days a week, lunch and dinner Mon-Fri; (12-3pm and 5.30-10.00pm), 10.30pm on Fridays; Sat brunch, lunch and dinner (10-3pm and 5-10pm) and open all day Sunday 10-9pm. Phone 020 7680 2702.
