The Swan is told it 'needs substantial improvement' following recent inspection
The Swan, which was voted most popular pub in Chiswick in a Time Out poll last year , has been given a negative food hygiene rating during an inspection by the Food Standards Agency.
Ratings are given from 1 to 5 and The Swan, which is situated in a quiet pedestrianised area near Acton Green Common, was rated 1 which means a major improvement is necessary.
There are a number of other shops and restaurants in Chiswick also given a 1 rating which you can read about here , including some long-established places.
The Swan is the first such inspection for 2016 and the other W4 inspections date back to 2014 and 2015. We have asked The Swan if they would like to comment.
The food hygiene rating given to a business reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of inspection or visit by the local authority. The food hygiene rating is not a guide to food quality.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) gives information to consumers about food outlets, ranging from restaurants and pubs, to cafes, takeaways, hotels, and supermarkets, where they go to eat or shop.
The information is publicly available for the 1,400 businesses rated in Hounslow borough and over 2,500 in Ealing. Each business is given their hygiene rating when it is inspected by a food safety officer from the business’s local authority.
The food safety officer inspecting the business checks how well the business is meeting the law by looking at: how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored, the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities, and how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.
At the end of the inspection, the business is given one of the six ratings from 0-5. The top rating of ‘5’ means that the business was found to have ‘very good’ hygiene standards.
