Strand on the Green Post Office Set for Comeback

Mrs Joshi reopens this week with limited trading hours

The Strand on the Green Post Office looks set to be back in business after a period of enforced closure

Mrs Joshi, the post mistress, decided to close shortly after lockdown in March. She made the decision after her health started to deteriorate due to the pressure of work.

She will be opening for just three days a week in the mornings only.

The opening hours will be as follows:

Monday - closed
Tuesday - closed
Wednesday - 9am to 1pm
Thursday - 9am to 1pm
Friday - 9am to 1pm
Saturday - closed
Sunday - closed

The branch had been one of the only post offices in west London to remain open during the coronavirus crisis and, as a result, queues outside had often stretched down Thames Road as far as the City Barge.

Mrs Joshi, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal for her service to the community, is in a high risk category for the virus.

Her son Milan said, “There have been a lot of conversations with my mum's GP, the post office area manager and Hammersmith hospital. Whilst my mum is very keen to re-open back to 100%, the R rate and risks are still too high so the opening hours have to be scaled back.

“A big thank you to customers who adhered to social distancing rules and wore masks and gloves the last time the post office was open. A big big big plea to all customers to do this again.”

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
