And Dani Kingdon, wife of Russ Dawkins is taking part as a contestant
This week, we take a sneaky peek at Dani Kingdon – wife of Back on Track Charity Founder Russ Dawkins. And there's a special message from Matt Dawson, who understands just what the contestants are going through as a former ' Strictly' contestant himself.
Whilst some of the contestants are finding the build up to 6 December rather daunting, Dani Kingdon has the perspective of seeing her husband Russ 24 hours after his accident, post heart attack and surgery and firmly in a coma to really know what daunting is. So undaunted – well, maybe a little – she is supporting Russ this time by taking on the Strictly Challenge as a contestant!
"Dani was a Child actress - the one with the goofy teeth in the 70's smash hit series 'Little house on the Prairie' - no, not the pretty, blonde one, the one with curly hair, freckles and a social conscience. A Frustrated starlet ever since, this is her way back to The Big Time.
Possibly having inherited her father's two left feet, I'm not sure why she's in it, other than being shamed into it by way of being married to the 'victim', Russ (me). She has, to her credit never once tipped me out of my chair, not even whilst piddled... something not all of my friends can hand on heart say.
"Loved by everyone, she normally only gets out of breath if she's paid for it - no, not like it sounds... I mean that she has supported West London's personal trainer community for years.
Our kids find it hilarious that she's doing this - obviously being mortified at the prospect of her dancing in front of thousands. Let's hope she loses some of her trademark dance hand movements… I'm however expecting a polished performance from a competitive middle class mum, keen to grind the other MCM's into the ground.
Nerves of steel and oblivious to her lack of talent, I would bet the contents of my wallet on Dani. Ok, I've just looked in there and there's a £5 voucher for Iceland, valid til the end of November. Shame the event is in December...."
