Police investigating the serious assault on Richard Walters have charged 18 year old Tyrone Williams from Acton with GBH with intent. He will appear at Feltham Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wednesday).

A 15 year old boy who was arrested with Williams has been bailed to return to a London police station.

Richard Walters remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Richard, from Neasden, was attending Belmont School's centenary celebrations when he and a group of friends became involved in an altercation with a group of youths on the High Road.

The police were called at 8.20pm and they found Richard in the car park of the Belmont School. He was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to another in East London, where his injury is believed to be critical.

The incident occurred at around 8.15pm on Friday, June 18th. Richard and a few friends left the celebrations at the school to go to the shops nearby in Chiswick High Rd. While there, they became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of slightly younger males. They were described as black and in their mid to late teens. Punches were thrown.

At this point, Richard's group ran back to the school where they reached the car park. One of the suspects who had followed them, pulled an 8ft wooden stake - which was supporting a small tree in the street - out of the ground, walked into the car park and hit Richard over the head with it. After the attack the suspects ran off.

Richard's mother said, "My family and I are devastated at the unprovoked attack on our son that has left him in a critical condition and fighting for his life. We cannot believe that someone could attack him outside the grounds of a school during their centenary party, attended by children and adults of all ages. If anyone has any information, however trivial it may seem to you, please come forward as it may prove to be the missing link."

An ambulance took Richard to hospital where he is in intensive care with serious head injuries.

Parents and former pupils of Belmont School were shocked to find a huge police presence as they left the school's centenary celebrations. The area was cordoned off because CID believed that forensic evidence may be available in the area.
