Livia Firth Drops Charges Against Alleged Stalker

Private settlement agreed between wife of film star Colin and her former lover

Livia Firth, the wife of Chiswick-based film actor Colin Firth, has dropped charges against an alleged stalker because she does not want details of her affair to become public, according to newspaper reports today (July 5th).

A court hearing in Rome was cancelled when an agreement between all parties was reached.

In a joint statement, the couple’s lawyers said, ‘In the best interests of their families, the parties have agreed a private settlement.

‘The parties have asked the court for a postponement of the preliminary hearing in order to formalise the agreement.'

According to a source quoted by The Sun , it is believed that Firth and Miss Giuggioli did not want any of their private details made public in court.

Livia Giuggiolo reported Italian journalist Marco Brancaccia to the police, claiming she was ‘living in terror’. She later admitted she had embarked on a year-long affair during a brief separation with Firth, 57.

Brancaccia, 55, denied that he had bombarded her with threatening phone calls and text messages after the relationship ended. The journalist, who works for Italian news agency Ansa, is a childhood friend of film producer Miss Giuggioli.

He was said to have started harassing her in September 2016 because he could not face being cut out of her life. She reported him to police after their relationship ended.

Italy introduced a law against stalking in 2009 following an increase in women being harassed and murdered, sometimes by former partners. If found guilty, Brancaccia could have faced up to four years in jail.

Miss Giuggioli has been married to Firth for more than 20 years and the pair have two sons.

She is an Oxfam ambassador and founder of the former Eco Age shop in Chiswick, as well as being an advocate of sustainable clothing.
