Delay to Installation of Lifts at Isleworth Station
Station will not be fully accessible until next year

Work on making Isleworth Station fully accessible will not now be completed until next year.
Network Rail confirmed in March that the station has been chosen for an upgrade which will see lifts installed on either side of the raised platforms making use of the existing subway.
Originally it was announced that the work was to be completed by the middle of November but now a date of ‘early’ 2024 has been given.
A team of engineers started work at the beginning of April.
In all the project, which is being implemented by a partnership including Network Rail and South Western railway, will cost £3million with £1million coming from Hounslow Council. Funding from the Access for All programme to improve accessibly for disabled people was given to Isleworth along with other local station such as Barnes and Wandsworth Town.
It is part of a £300 million station upgrade programme, which when complete could see 73 stations made step-free by 2024.
Councillor Katherine Dunne, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport Strategy of Hounslow Council, said, “This work at Isleworth Station is a fantastic step forward to improving access for all our residents. Not only will the work improve access for disabled travellers, but it will also improve the customer experience for families with pushchairs and those with luggage. The work builds on our commitment to improved accessibility at stations in the borough.
“The timing of this work also complements the Council’s wider infrastructure improvement, which includes new cycle access from St John’s Road into the station car park – providing cyclists with a safer route to the station.
“Improved and accessible public transport options contribute to making our borough cleaner and greener and is an important stepping stone in the Council’s journey for tackling our climate emergency.”
David Wilby, regional development manager for South Western Railway, said, “The new lifts at Isleworth will be important for all of our customers, including those with reduced mobility who require lifts to gain access to the platforms. This is just one of the six multi-million-pound accessibility projects that will be completed at South Western Railway stations by 2024, which is thanks to both a significant investment by the Access for All team and, in this case, the hard work, funding and long periods of campaigning by our stakeholders.”
