Osvaldo Carvalho from Hanwell died after fight near West Lodge Avenue
Scene at West Lodge Avenue
The man stabbed to death near Ealing Common on Tuesday evening (24 September) has been named as 22-year-old Osvaldo Carvalho, from Hanwell.
It is believed that Osvaldo and two friends had arrived in the area by car before heading over to a small green area known as Twyford Crescent Gardens. There was an altercation with another group of men which resulted in the victim and his friends running away across Uxbridge Road. Osvaldo was then chased by the other group and suffered stab injuries.
One person who was arrested on suspicion of affray, has since been released from custody and will face no further action. He is being treated as a witness to the investigation.
Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended. Despite the best efforts of medics, a 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 6.48pm.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but the team investigating the fatal stabbing have named the victim as Osvaldo.
His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.
Detectives from Specialist Crime investigate, led by Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh are investigating.
He said, “A young man has tragically lost his life and another family has been left grieving. The death of this man will no doubt impact all those who knew him, his family, friends and also the wider community in the area where this attack took place.
“We need those who have information to come forward now. Their information could prove vital to securing justice for the victim’s family. My team are busy at the crime scene and forensic analysis and review of local CCTV footage continues apace.
Chief Superintendent Paul Martin said, “I would like to say that our thoughts remain with the family, friends and wider community following this fatal attack. We are committed to bringing them the justice they deserve.
“This murder will no doubt alarm and concern the local community particularly coming so soon after the fatal attack in Hillingdon station on the same day. That investigation is being led by British Transport Police.
“I would like to reassure all those who live and work in the area that we are doing everything we can to keep you safe.
“A section 60 order was put in place for the Hillingdon and Ealing areas and our local policing teams are working with the Violent Crime Taskforce, Specialist Crime Command and other specialist resources, as well as with our local partners in the area. I would ask anyone with information to get in touch with investigators.”
DCI McHugh added, “I would like to appeal to those who were in the area before or after the attack to call and tell us what you saw. Did you see anyone in the area before the fatal stabbing? Do you remember seeing or hearing anything as the attacker(s) made off? We need the public’s help along with those who knew the victim to come forward and tell us what they know.
“Whilst we retain an open mind, at this early stage, there are nothing to suggest this attack is linked to the incident on Hillingdon Station or the fatal attack in Southall on Monday.”
Anyone with information is asked to call officers via 101 quoting reference CAD5954/24Sep.
