Further Appeal Made for Witnesses to Acton Death

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Acton earlier this month are issuing a renewed appeal for witnesses.

Shortly before 12:50pm on Sunday, 22 March, 54-year-old Stefan Melnyk was struck by a car on Salisbury Street at the back of the Everyone Active Leisure centre.

Mr Melnyk, who lived locally, was taken to hospital but died the next day. Detectives await the outcome of a post-mortem examination.

Another man, aged 39, who had been working near the scene suffered a knife wound in the aftermath of the collision. He was treated at the scene by paramedics but his injuries were described as being not serious.

28-year-old Rhian Beresford of Hope Gardens, W3 was detained at the scene. She was later arrested on suspicion of murder and charged with both counts. She was remanded by the court to appear at a hearing in June.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding, who is leading the investigation for the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “We are still appealing for contact from anyone who has not already come forward that may have seen the incident in Salisbury Street, Acton at around 12:50hrs on Sunday, 22 March. This includes telephone footage that may have been taken.

“A number of people came to Stefan’s aid as police were called to the incident, which undoubtedly would have been very traumatising to witness.

“Please give us a call and share any pieces of information you may have – it could assist our investigation and help us secure justice for Stefan, as well as the man who was stabbed following the incident.”
