Fears that Acton Gardens redevelopment plans will destroy the current site
Allotment holders in South Acton are urging Ealing Council to rethink development plans which they say will destroy part of the communities green space.
The Jerome allotment, on the corner of Enfield Road and Osborne Road, next to Acton Gardens is designated a 'Site of Importance for Nature Conservation' and hosts Environmental and food-growing educational activities for the estate's After School club.
However there has been much concern after plans for new buildings between 3 and 15 floors were submitted as part of the estates regeneration and it's claimed this structure would block sunlight from the allotment vastly devaluing the site for both food growing and biodiversity.
Allotment holders say the proposals differ significantly from those given outline consent in 2012.
They believe they will impact on the long term future of the allotments and are calling on Ealing Council to reject the current plan in favour of the Estate Masterplan c2012 - 'to retain the character and value of plots for their intended purpose and the value of the site for wildlife'.
A petition has been set up and plot holders are urging everyone to read up on the proposals and sign.
They say should the current plan be passed by Ealing Council they intend to appeal.
