Tributes Paid To Acton Man Who Drowned During Storms

Church service for David Dooley will take place on Monday in W3

The funeral has been announced of a popular Acton man who drowned off the coast of Brighton during Storm Callum.

38-year-old David Dooley, a railway engineer and father of one who had recently become a grandfather, was originally from Co Offaly, Ireland and is believed to have taken a fall and been swept out to sea after a night out with friends on Saturday 13 October.

Sussex police released a statement following the tragedy:“Coastguards, police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene. The 38-year-old man was retrieved from the water but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

When the news was released tributes were quick to appear on social media.

Richard Pleasants posted, "Having a quick one for you I can't believe it and you're not pranking us all. Your passing was so far from my thoughts that this terrible news has hit very hard. I'm sure there are many more who feel this way. There is ONLY One David Dooley RIP."

George Mangan wrote: "Really really sad, he was such a pleasant fella, he never had a bad word to say. "Absolute gentleman. RIP old pal."

Workmates along with regulars from the Windmill Pub in W3 quickly put a fundraising page together to help funeral expenses and the cost of repatriating his body back to Ireland. The fundraising link is here.

Gerry Foley from The Windmill Pub said David was very popular and lots of people have wanted to help out.

He told ActonW3.com, '' We've been overwhlemed by the local support, people have contributed a few pounds and some other have made donations in hundreds and even a thousand.''
